Add Healthy Years to your Life

Welcome to the UC Irvine Center for Healthspan Sciences at the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences.

Working with world-leading researchers and diverse populations in Southern California, the Center provides science education and practical knowledge to help improve everyday life. We hope to inspire healthier choices today and healthy habits for tomorrow.

Through science, education and inspiration, we seek to improve human lives and our community.

EDUCATION

Focusing on topics of self-care and healthspan sciences, our center offers coursework for students of all majors—helping them learn how to succeed both inside and outside the classroom setting. Courses like Life101 help foster mindfulness and emotional intelligence. And starting this Winter 2021, our courses will be available to students across all 10 UC campuses.

As part of the SPPS, within the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, the goal of the Center for Healthspan Sciences is to increase human longevity and improve healthspan, the time in peoples’ lives when they experience mental and physical well-being.

Please join our mailing list to receive our blog and to connect with a like-minded community. Together we can improve our community’s healthspan.

Meet Our Center Director,
Dr. Mahtab Jafari

The focus of Dr. Jafari’s research program is on slowing the aging process through a science that she introduced as “Healthspan Pharmacology.” Using human cultured cells, fruit flies and mice, she studies the impact of botanical extracts and dietary supplements on aging. Her ultimate goal is to slow the aging process.

SCIENCE

The Center will be the home to the Healthspan Pilot Studies Program, which will offer grants to multidisciplinary teams of scientists to create new information in Healthspan Sciences, which will be used as preliminary data for larger projects.
